Sometimes you just have to look up...
Sometimes the best moments aren't the ones we planned. They're the ones that simply make us stop. This week, it happened three different times. Once when I looked up and saw a giant pink cloud glowing above the horizon. Again when a rainbow appeared after a summer storm. And once more while driving through Minnesota, when I caught a beautiful sunset, not through the windshield, but reflected in my side mirror. None of those moments lasted very long.
But every one of them made me reach for my camera.
And that's one of my favorite things about always having a camera (aka as my phone) nearby. I never know what's going to catch my eye. Sometimes it's something as unexpected as a cloud that looks like it was painted across the sky. You can't plan those moments.
You either notice them...or you don't.

This rainbow appeared suddenly. Rainbows have a funny way of making complete strangers stop what they're doing. People pull over. Neighbors walk outside. Phones come out. For just a few minutes, everyone seems to be looking in the same direction. Then, almost as quickly as they appear, they're gone.

The sunset was my favorite, not because it was the most spectacular, but because I almost missed it. We were driving through Minnesota, focused on traffic ahead, when I happened to glance at the side mirror. There it was. The whole sky glowing behind us. It made me think about how many beautiful things we notice only because we happen to look in a different direction.
Earlier this week I shared a Facebook post that included some of my favorite soaps from years past. I expected everyone to enjoy seeing them again. What surprised me was how much I enjoyed revisiting them myself. I wasn't looking for anything in particular. I simply started scrolling (after getting through the first 10,000 dog pictures of course).
And suddenly I found myself smiling. Every bar brought back a memory. Some reminded me of a fragrance I'd forgotten how much I loved. Others made me remember a swirl that worked exactly the way I'd imagined...or one that absolutely didn't. A few represented techniques that took several tries before I finally got them right.
Those photos weren't just pictures of soap anymore. They had quietly become little time capsules. And it made me wonder how many of the photos I've taken this week will feel the same way years from now.

So this week, I hope something unexpected catches your eye. Maybe it's a flower blooming where you didn't expect it. A sunset that makes you pull off the road for a minute. Or simply a memory that makes you smile.
Whatever it is...I hope you notice it.
