Notes from the Mountain - Issue No. 4
đ This one didnât go as planned... - Some details may be slightly exaggeratedâŚ
Summit of Mt. Princeton (14,196')â July 2015
This climb is also known as:
The one where Merle lost the trailâŚ
The one where he led Joi (my BFF) and I straight down through a loose boulder fieldâŚ
The one where we slipped, slid, and very nearly didnât make it down in one pieceâŚ
And the one where we eventually fell, landed in cactus, were shaken, scratched up, and at least one of us sitting there crying for a minute picking needles out of her hand before we could even laugh about it.
And when we finally caught up with him, he was leaned up against a rock, completely relaxed, smoking a cigar.
Some details may be slightly exaggeratedâŚ(except for the cigar part đ)
The funny thing is â if you ask each of us about that day, youâll get a completely different story.
Same climb.
Same mountain.
Completely different experience.
And I think thatâs part of why certain scents stick with people. Not because theyâre âthe bestâ, but because they remind you of something specific.
A place.
A moment.
A version of something you remember differently than anyone else.
What one person reaches for every dayâŚanother person might never pick up. And thatâs exactly how it should be.
And sometimes, it just depends on the season youâre in.

Most of the time, itâs not about finding something better.
Just something that fits where you are right now.
From the Trail:
A short reflection inspired by the outdoors.
âThe same place can mean something different depending on when you return to it.â
More soon,
